I was browsing the internet (admittedly trying to figure out where a particular comment about Mr. Obama originated), when I saw a comment on a page that made me just cringe.
From http://chronicle.com/blogs/election/?id=2517:
4. “Pro-life” = “Pro-coathangers”
— Dan
Now, I personally am Pro-Choice. Before you fly off and call me a baby killer, know that I would personally never have an abortion. Ever. However, I am not a scared pregnant 16 year old, a rape victim, nor a mother whose life is in jeopardy due to the fetus growing in my womb. I have known many that either fall within one category or multiple. I think the option should be there should the occasion arise with NO OTHER OPTION AVAILABLE.
Now, back to my point: That comment illustrates the point I've been trying to make, but in not so few (or crude) terms. The reason the laws were put into place in the first place was not to encourage abortions - it was to make them safe for women who would otherwise find other means.
A scared human, once having made up their mind, will do anything to see their decisions come through. And I do mean anything.
I have known stories of women who went to back alley clinics where the "doctors" used dirty utensils and the women more often died due to tetanus or exposure to some disease or other. I would not force anybody to have to make a decision like that again. They're still like that for sex changes.
If you don't want an abortion, then don't have one, but please do not take away the option for millions of women and forcing them into desperate measures again.
